The Ecomagination Challenge is On! Phase II: Powering Your Home

Today marks the opening of the second phase of GE’s ecomagination Challenge! We are asking innovators of all kinds to submit new ideas that address home energy creation, use and management. This is an excellent opportunity to see your ideas succeed on a global scale.

With the ecomagination Challenge: Powering Your Home, GE and our venture capital partners are looking for investing opportunities and will be furnishing five $100K cash awards to the most innovative ideas. We are excited to find and fund new technologies and/or processes that can make a significant impact on energy in the home, and will be accepting new submissions from January 18 through March 1, 2011.

The first phase of GE’s ecomagination Challenge focused on the Smart Grid, looking at new ways to create, connect and use energy. Many of the ideas we received were centered on home energy solutions. So for Phase II of the Challenge, we thought it would be a good idea to start at home.

As we look at our energy future, the home offers a wealth of opportunities for smarter, cleaner, more efficient energy use. Commercial buildings and homes account for 41% all energy use, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration, making the home a prime space for better energy generation and efficiency solutions.

GE’s ecomagination commitment is about accelerating the clean energy economy. We want to bring innovative technologies to market today. With our $200 million ecomagination Challenge, we are investing in innovation. And with $55 million in awards and investments announced last November, and more to come through this second phase of the Challenge, our commitment is more than just words.
